I drew this after a late night coding session working as an undergraduate researcher on the EcoRaft Project. I've kept this image because when I look at it now, I can get a good idea what I was thinking at the time. It's like a snapshot of my mental state. Plus I have a thing for wings on skeleton monsters with abnormally long appendages.

Originally a sketch for a banner on a friend’s website, I appropriated this because of the undeniable lure of the robot’s gestalt. While truly primitive in form, the underlying character and energy is what so captivates the mind. Both fleeting, and yet resolute in its drive to grasp the anima.

Yes, I just made that up. The banner part, not the anima.

A curmugeon. You can tell because he looks like one. Perhaps he’s angry that he can’t find his nose. Or that his spine is tingly.

So actually, this guy robbed a bank just to prove to himself that he could. He didn’t use a gun or even wear a mask. He just stared at the teller with those piercing eyes, and without saying a word the teller knew that she was through. Over and done with. She bundled up all the money and handed it over without raising any alarms. Impressive, you might say. She later met up with the curmugeon at a local franchise arm of the largest instant coffee empire known to man. He ordered the Deep Down Mocha Hound, and she ordered something sweet (to match her seasonal sweater). They really hit it off. After 2 years of dating they got married, had a couple kids, and one of them grew up to cure cancer.

When music is more than background filler. When the sound comes alive. When it grabs you.

I was going to submit this idea for the official logo of the XMMS2 player, but the deadline had already passed by the time I saw that they had actually opened for submissions. I liked the idea and still wanted to make the image. Originally I had planned to make it in a three-tone vector art style for the logo, but now that this image was just for me I decided to create it in Maya and go for a photo-realistic look and feel.
